A new design of bee cage for laboratory experiments: nutritional assessment of supplemental diets in honey bees (Apis mellifera)

چکیده

We designed a cage that can maintain adult bees for 21 days with about 90% survival rate, in addition to facilitating the changing of sucrose syrup and beebread, collection live dead without disturbing or releasing bees. The consumption rates bee pollen diet groups 50–200 honey were recorded after emergence. consumed mainly at age 1–9 days. Regular was observed among all throughout Furthermore, nutritional responses nurse bees—specifically, expressions major royal jelly protein 1 (mrjp1) head vitellogenin (vg) abdomen—upon provision five single-supplemental diets evaluated. aimed improve usability cages by elucidating food relationship between gene expression ingestion each single-protein diet.

The foraging behaviour of honey bees, Apis mellifera: a review

Foraging behaviour is one of the distinctive behaviours of honey bees, Apis mellifera. This behaviour is the link between the honey bee colony and the ambient environment. Therefore, various in-colony and out-colony factors have an impact on this behaviour, and many studies have been employed to investigate these factors. Foraging behaviour is not advantageous only for the colony and for plant ...

Nutritional Effects of High Protein Feeds on Growth, Development, Performance and Overwintering of Honey Bee (Apis mellifera L.)

In order to evaluate eight different protein sources in honey bee nutrition, some experiments were conducted as a completely randomized designs with four replicates and three steps incubator, field and overwintering in Isfahan region. Protein sources were lentil flour, soybean flour, soybean meal, bread yeast, wheat gluten, skim milk powder, fish meal and Pollen. Results showed that the longevi...

Effects of Nutritional Stress on Aspects of Worker Performance in the Honey Bee (Apis mellifera)

Juvenile malnourishment affects learning and task performance in many species, and is well documented in mammals, but poorly studied in invertebrates. We examined the effect of nutritional stress during larval development on the longevity and task performance of honey bee (Apis mellifera) adults. Nutritional stress occurs naturally in honey bee colonies when pollen, which provides honey bees wi...

Field-Level Sublethal Effects of Approved Bee Hive Chemicals on Honey Bees (Apis mellifera L)

In a study replicated across two states and two years, we tested the sublethal effects on honey bees of the miticides Apistan (tau fluvalinate) and Check Mite+ (coumaphos) and the wood preservative copper naphthenate applied at label rates in field conditions. A continuous covariate, a colony Varroa mite index, helped us disambiguate the effects of the chemicals on bees while adjusting for a pr...
